Amp intelligence:
Amplifiers are devices that have a teeny tiny audio signal from a pre-amp, some power from the battery, and is moving at such a large audio signal to drive the speakers.
The most important advice I can give is to buy a lot of power. For the cleaner sound, it is important to buy as much power as you can afford.
Here are a couple of words, you need to know to evaluate car audio amplifiers.
Watt: A watt is a measure ofpower. Power is the ability to do so. In the case of amplifiers, is the work to move from a loudspeaker. Amplifiers are available in all power range from 20 watts per channel up to thousands per channel. When it comes to amplifiers, watts are described in two ways:
RMS: the effects of PMA can say: 75W RMS x 4 CH @ 4Ω V 14.4
This means that the amplifier is capable of 75 watts for 4 channels with 4 ohm speakers, and 14.4V of voltage. This amplifier is able to offer this option if all theseconditions are respected at all times. The truth is that if you have your system designed to meet all the conditions are at all times. Impedences Speakers' (measured in ohms, or Ω) change constantly while operating. Ampere not necessarilly put out the same power all the time or, for example when a bass track to play against a much more comfortable to maintain.
When buying an amp, look at it's power as a marker for the ability of your amplifier rather than what is likely to put out allTIMES.
But I must also say that the rating is an RMS amplifier of a communication is to try to establish a power amplifier.
CEA Compliant Power: E '(hopefully) is the industry standard for determining a power amplifier. These allow you to accurately compare two amps together, knowing that was tested under the same conditions. Know why this is a good thing, click here …
MAX:
Office in an amplifier's RMS rating, yousee "an amplifier MAX" rating. It is often double the RMS rating. MAX rating is pure junk. Not aware of the maximum points, because only see what the amp is capable of in a laboratory environment. E 'type of environment can not be represented in the car, and then the result is misleading. Amp max rating is proably about 50% more than the RMS. Never buy an amp based on the maximum score. Ok, and, finally, because it makes you look like a total shock, never, ever, ever say your amp is1000 watt amp because it has a maximum 1000 watt sticker on it, and especially if you bought your amp at the Swap Meet. 1000 watt amp is big and heavy.
In any case, even buy an amplifier that is based on the MAX rating ever.
CEA Compliant Power: (CEA = Consumer Electronics Association) This spec (if your amplifier includes it) a new assessment. The objectives of this assessment is a useful reference for amp comparison. In the bad old days ", amp manufacturers could almost claim whateverpower is no indication of testing methods. Changes CEA rating. CEA compliant output power of determining what can be expected when the following criteria are met: 14.4V, loaded with 4 Ohm speakers and 1% distortion. You can now fairly compare two amplifiers to each other, because we know that have been tested in the same way. Make sense? No? OK, it seems that: If an office of a production line with CEA of 100 watts per channel, we know that the amplifier isessentially similar to a second amplifier with the same CEA rating. But you can not compare this amp to another amplifier that is rated at 100 watts per channel RMS.
I am a big fan of this assessment. Finally, there is a uniform standard for amplifier power. If an amplifier does not include specific, so that the manufacturer is probably trying to hide something.
Bridging: Many stereo and 4 channel amps allow you to "build bridges". What do you do with the bridge is a combination of two or four channels in onetwo channels. Then you can give more power than a single speaker, a subwoofer for an example. This is a useful feature for those on a stereo amplifier that rondlê seen, but that he would use all its power from a single speaker to drive. There's nothing wrong with the bridge, and is often used for subwoofers.
Crossover: Many amps have a simple crossover built in principle, would be a switch that has three positions: high pass, low pass mode will have. High pass basically ablehigher frequencies to pass. This is useful if the amplifier is the power tweeter and MID. The low-pass only low frequencies can be reproduced. This is useful when you amp and a subwoofer. Off means that all frequencies will be sent to the speaker.
Bass Boost: Some amps a circuit that, when activated by a boost to your bottom. Is not fundamental, and I usually do not use them in my system.
Frequency: This specification tells you what frequenciesamp responds. Higher frequencies are treble, lower frequencies are low. The human ear can perceive from 20 Hz to 20,000 Hz (aka 20kHz). Most amps will reproduce this frequency band with ease. Some will go up and down. Do not worry about that because usually CDs do not contain all the data in this series, and even when they did not feel! Some people talk about harmonics, and do not know if this is true or not. But Whateva. To learn more about this debate elsewhere.
Channel amplifiers: theychannels that basically tell you how many loads it is built to run. Loads = speakers, so a two channel amp will power two speakers.
Classes
Different amps have different designs that all achieve the same thing (fill in a musical signal), but to achieve this goal in different ways. The way in which the amplifier is designed in reference to his "class". There are 4 main types of classes and the chance to arrive. I was not really the technical differences between them do not know, butnot matter. We're just installing amps, not designing them!
A – Very good sound quality, very inefficient use of power boats, and wasting most of them in the form of heat.
B – Good sound quality, moderately efficient, uses a lot of energy, wastes about half of them in the form of heat. Some distortion "crossover" present
A / B – Combination of classes A and B, low volume, use the Class A amplifier. For large quantities, the use of the Class B amplifier
D- So-quality, so the sound (but reproduces bass very well), highly efficient, uses little energy, waste very little.
Other classes: Whatever. Not exist. I do not know if they sound better. The ears are the best judge.
THD: E 'stands for "total harmonic distortion", but the D is all you need to solve. It 'clear that the smaller the number the better. You do not want your amp for distortion and send to your speakers do not! Causes noise and harmful to the speakers. TheExperts say nothing THD rating below 0.1% is inaudible, meaning you can not see. But remember that distortion travels through all components, and is reinforced by each. Then an amplifier with low distortion, and other components of high distortion in the system disturbance propagated.
S / N Ratio: A measure of how an amplifier silences background noise. This specification is measured in dB, and the highest S / N, the cleaner the sound.
Speaker Level Inputs: This feature allows you to connectthe amplifier to your system through speaker wires (instead of RCA cables). This feature is useful if you add an amplifier to a stereo factory.
Preamp Outputs: This feature allows you to connect an RCA cable for the office of a second amplifier to provide the musical signal. This feature is useful if you want to add another amp without running a cable all the way from your head unit to the amplifier. It also lets you add an additional amp to a head unit that only one set of RCA mayPre-outs.
Remote Bass Control: This feature allows you to control the bass amplifier, without adjustment to the amplifier. You can mount the control, which is clever, and adjust the area below.
How to determine which amp is best for your system:
How many channels is your system?
How to connect the channels.
Features that you want
Crossover:
Inputs:
(speaker hi level)
RCA pre-amp (at LO)
How many channels you wantdriving? We have already discussed the series of stereo systems, so it is necessary to determine the number of speakers is running. Say you want to build an intermediate system with 6 speakers. The figures will complete all 6 of them with an amplifier "real." You can add a few lines: You're a 6-channel amplifier, or a 5-channel amplifier can buy, and that your entire system. It makes life so easy, if you want to keep the facility clean and simple. You can also use the speakers with multiple amps: a currency, a 4-channel power,You can even use three stereo amplifiers. If you want to get really hard, you could bi-amp loudspeaker components, bringing your amp to the number 3, 4 and 5 amps!
One way you can be creative with the installation of the bridge. If you want to power 2 or more subs on a stereo amplifier, you can bridge, or a combination of the two channels into one. From there you can create subtitles in serial or parallel cable to the proper ohm load to get. It 'a simple way to power multiple speakers on aamplifier.
To save money, you can not always choose an amplifier for the rear speakers to be installed. I often had the effect of out of your head unit. When I listen to music without rear passengers, I can just fade the head unit to the front, leaving me with the amplified front speakers.
You need an amp has a crossover?
Crossover very useful when subwooers fuel. Most amps can reproduce the full range of human ears. But when you install subs, we would onlythem to play bass. If the office of a crossover, you can do, and essentially tell the amp to only send bass subwoofer. Since the subtitles can only play bass, because the amp waste energy sending frequecies subwoofer can not reproduce it? Madness, I tell ya!
Inputs
Speaker: It 'called the high level of inputs because the signal is now much stronger. Obtaining an amplifier with input as high as an integrated amplifier with a factory head unit.
RCA: These areso-called low-level input, because the signal is much larger. These inputs are RCA-style, and are preferable because they produce less noise. This is the best option if you have an aftermarket head.
So, now you're really educated amplifiers. Do not worry. You can thank us later!
